RLS Law is a City-based property boutique law firm founded by two former Hogan Lovells property lawyers. They are staffed exclusively with big Firm lawyers and despite their numerous rankings in the Legal directories; the growth of the business was hampered by their inability to recruit individuals of sufficient calibre to support the needs of their clients.
How did Jones Davey assist through our executive legal search process?
In the first instance, we researched the business extensively to gain an in-depth understanding of its plans, values and ambitions. We know the Property market well, so for us, it was more a case of understanding the space that they currently occupied so that we could identify the key challenges and devise specific strategies to proactively address them.
Once clear on the objectives and potential bear traps, we decided that search was going to be the most effective way forward. Why? We needed to raise the Firm’s profile within our target market by communicating the message in an accurate and attractive manner to establish a platform from which we could secure expressions of interest from the market.
When working with slightly smaller organisations in particular, it’s imperative that the Firm secures the best person first time around as the consequences of recruiting the wrong person can be very costly in both time and resources. The goal was to reduce the founding Partner’s caseload with a key hire so that they could focus their efforts on building the business rather than working in it!
Once the approaches were completed, every qualified and interested party were met by the lead consultant and evaluated against the competency framework and brief, prior to submitting the best for the Firm’s consideration. Each submitted candidate comes with detailed ‘Consultant’s Notes’ which provide an in-depth assessment of their suitability for the role – including personality, motivations, skills and experiences.

We presented our shortlist at a client meeting during which we finalised the interviewees. We continued to proactively manage every step of the interview process and successfully negotiated the package.
